What To Eat When You Are Sick

Share it now.

When you are sick, the last thing you want to do is get out of your comfy bed and prepare something to eat. But gather up all the energy you got because having a balanced, healthy diet is especially important when you are sick so that your immune system can do its job. Here is a list of Bon'Approved food to eat while you are down with cold so that you can fight it off and recover fast!

Chicken Soup

A warm bowl of chicken soup, or any clear broths soup for that matter, is an essential food item that is easy to digest when you don't have much of an appetite. Chicken soup will not only keep you hydrated, but also keep you fuller longer. The lean protein in chicken will help your body fight off infection, while the warm broth will relieve congestion ad keep you warm when you are feeling cold. The broth also helps to restore the fluid you lose when you are sick.

Cottage Cheese

It is important to consume enough protein to help strengthen your body. Since your stomach won't have easy time digesting tough meat like steak, choose easily digestible proteins, such as cottage cheese, to power your muscles.

Having strong immune system will help you recover faster. A diet high in vitamin C will do the job. Rather than taking vitamin C supplements, get it straight from the source so that your body absorbs this nutrient faster. Citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruits, have the most abundant vitamin C. Don't peel off the soft white skin because these contain flavonoids, which increase immune system activity.

  1. The chicken soup is best for people with fever. It helps to get the necessary protein without having to eat the chicken. Sick people usually have trouble making food stay in the stomach. With the chicken broth, it helps to bring the needed nourishment to the body.
